A 7-1/2 pound baby?

My carefree over-eating habits are finally catching up with me! Since the start of my 2nd trimester, my appetite for food increased drastically. I was eating bigger and bigger portions and still getting hungry often. I didn't care much about it - I never really calorie counted and love to eat whatever, whenever. Hot chocolate, yogurt, hamburgers, mid-day McDonalds runs, all the greasy stuff - you name it - I probably ate it.

But now, 32 weeks into my pregnancy, I've gained 27 lbs (7 in the past 4 weeks), still with 8 more weeks to go. The ideal weight gain for the entire pregnancy is 25 mind you. I've not only exceeded that 25 lbs in 32 weeks, I'm probably due to put on additional pounds in the next 2 months. Although I don't feel like I have such a big tummy compared to others, I've grown a lot. Yesterday my doctor measured my tummy and I was 1 cm more than normal. She gave me an estimate that at the rate I'm going, I will have a 7-1/2 lb baby!! Ok, that totally FREAKS ME OUT. I'm already scared enough of this whole childbirth process...imagine if I have a big baby, how much more painful it will be!

Starting now - cut, cut, cut calorie in-take! No more sweet stuff, no more junk food! I can do this!

No, you're not supposed to cut calories. You need to continue to eat. You've only gained 27 lbs. You're okay. I gained 30-35 lbs. Don't remember the exact number but it was somewhere in that range. My stomach as HUGE the last month of my pregnancy and still Chloe came out only 6 lb 10 oz. Their weight estimates for the baby are just that, estimates. So eat away! You will not have an excuse anymore after the baby is born!

I agree with Googi. The baby needs nutrients, and mama needs to enjoy food and not diet...and not yes another thing to worry about!. I gained about 35 pounds with each pregnancy and my kids came out 6lbs 3oz and 7lbs 4oz. Everyone is different and weight is distributed differently.

Plus the last 4-6 weeks, the baby is packing on much needed fat, so maybe not your weight to keep anyways! Lol.

eat up and enjoy!

Agree with both mamas. I gained 35-38 lbs too. I forget the exact amount but basically ballooned in the last trimester. If you've only gained 27 then you're doing well!
