Lullabies

When I was on maternity and at home with Sarah everyday, I had to quickly learn the lyrics to the popular children's lullabies so I could sing to her. Just today, it dawned on me how sad and how cruel and terrible some of lyrics are!  Oh my, some of these should rated for R for violence.  Maybe you just haven't noticed, but here are some, just to name a few:
  • London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down
  • The three blind mice got their tails cut with a carving knife (by the farmer's wife)
  • None of the stuff in "Hush Little Baby" works, so papa gotta to go buy something else
  • The itsy bitsy spider got washed out by the rain
  • When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall, and down will come baby, cradle and all  (Rock a bye baby) - absolutely horrifying to a baby trying to sleep!
  • Oh my darling Clementine - thou art lost and gone forever...dreadful sorry, Clementine
  • The poor meatball that was on top of spaghetti (all covered with cheese) got lost when someone sneezed
  • It rained all night the day I left, the weather it was dry; the sun was hot, I froze to death...Oh Susanna, don't you cry for me!

Agree! I wouldn't let any old man play with my thigh, shoe, door, or anywhere. I always skip that song on the CD. Creepy.
